Gigi opened on Broadway last night! Starring Vanessa Hudgens and Corey Cott, this musical is not a brand new one. Sure enough, back in the fifties Anita Loos adapted the homonym novel for the stage, and the original Broadway production starred Audrey Hepburn as the main character.
Yesterday Gigi came back and embraced the 26-year-old actress that we all remember as Gabriella in High School Musical... but some of you also as Mimi in the Hollywood production of Rent. And let's face it, she was awful in that. Not because she cannot act or sing, but the role of Mimi didn't suit her.
This time though, I think I'm gonna like her as Gigi. I've only watched her perfoming on YouTube two of the songs from the musical before the opening night, and I gotta say she improved a lot and she was very good at it! She has a very sweet voice, still you can tell she has studied and worked very hard and that she really cares about her Broadway debut, as you can also witness on her Instagram account, in which she uploaded a lot of photos and videos from the show.
Corey Cott on the other hand is already well known on Broadway for playing Jack Kelly after Jeremy Jordan from September 5, 2012 to August 24, 2014, when the musical closed *is still crying*.
I personally do not doubt him at all, he has a fantastic voice and has already appeared in various shows, I've seen a lot of his performances on YouTube and he's absolutely amazing.
Victoria Clark, well, does it need saying? She's like a goddess of musical theatre and a talented professonal actress, I would feel so honoured to work with her. And Howard McGillin, the world's longest running Phantom? Wow. This cast includes so many talented people!
Good luck to all the cast & crew of Gigi on Broadway!
